Invisalign

invisalign

Invisalign is the leading clear aligner system and can straighten teeth without the need for brackets and wires. It is very discreet and hardly noticeable even close up! Many patients have told us that work colleagues and friends have not realised they are having treatment.

Invisalign® can help to treat a variety of orthodontic concerns including teeth which are crooked, crowded or gappy.

Treatment with Invisalign® consists of a series of custom-made clear removable aligners which fit over your teeth. There are no metal wires or brackets. Each aligner is worn for up to two weeks, moving teeth gradually until they are straight. You should remove aligners for eating, which means that you can eat and drink what you like.

Invisalign® is not suitable for every case; very crowded teeth or complex problems are usually better treated with fixed braces (conventional or lingual), especially when tooth extractions are needed. But many milder cases can be treated to a beautiful finish with Invisalign.

We have found that Invisalign is particularly suited to those who live away from home for much of the year, for instance university students or those who are often abroad, like air cabin crew. This is because appointments for Invisalign treatment do not need to be as frequent as those for fixed braces. Owing to the removable nature of Invisalign it can also be a great solution for wind and brass instrument players who play to a high standard, particularly those who play the French horn or trumpet.

Invisalign is provided by many practices including general dental practices, but in many cases the treating practitioner is a general dentist, not a specialist orthodontist with years of experience of moving teeth. At Woodlands Orthodontics your treatment will always be supervised by an orthodontic specialist.
