Introduction

Orthodontics can give you the smile you’ve always wanted! Orthodontic treatment improves the appearance and alignment of crooked, protruding, crowded or gappy teeth and corrects the way the teeth bite together. At Woodlands Orthodontics Dr Millen and her team offer a wide range of orthodontic treatments including invisible braces and highly discreet clear fixed braces, Invisalign and removable braces. We treat all age groups from children as young as 7 years to adults over 70; there is nearly always a solution that is right for you.

Which brace is right for me?

At Woodlands Orthodontics we fully assess your individual case and discuss your treatment requirements and expectations. Dr Millen carries out a full orthodontic assessment, involving a dental examination, clinical photographs, X-rays and scans or impressions of your teeth. This is normally carried out at your first visit. Dr Millen is then be able to recommend the type of treatment which suits your needs, and give you a good idea of the costs involved.

A written quotation of the exact cost of treatment is supplied to you shortly afterwards. Very occasionally orthodontics is not the most suitable treatment for a particular individual, or there may be a simpler way of achieving a straighter smile. Dr Millen will advise you on alternative options and can liaise with your general dentist if necessary, to ensure that you get the treatment that’s right for you.

A beautiful smile in 6 months?

Many people want to straighten their smile as quickly as possible, perhaps in time for a wedding or other special occasion. Crooked, twisted and gappy front teeth can often be straightened in about six months using discreet clear fixed braces or even completely invisible braces. Discuss your time frame with Dr Millen so that your treatment can be tailored to your needs.

Invisible braces – want something completely hidden or very discreet?

Modern braces can be truly invisible or very discreet. You can achieve a straighter smile without drawing unnecessary attention to your teeth during the process.

We offer two types of truly invisible brace (lingual braces) which are fitted completely behind your teeth so no-one else can see them. No-one need know you are having treatment unless you tell them! Incognito uses custom-made brackets which are specifically designed for your particular treatment. There is also a ‘Lite’ version which can be used when just your front teeth need straightening. An alternative, 2D lingual braces, are especially suitable when only your lower front teeth need treatment.

Clear Fixed Braces

Clear fixed braces are our most popular treatment because they are very discreet, and can straighten teeth quickly and very economically. Most people who have them fitted say they are pleasantly surprised at how little they show. Clear braces consist of glass-clear ceramic brackets connected by wires which can be white-coated.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Clear aligners can be the perfect solution if you would like your braces to be fully removable yet almost invisible. Invisalign treatment uses a series of clear plastic aligners (each slightly different from the one before) which fit over your teeth and hardly show. Your teeth are gently guided and moulded into their new positions.

The aligners need to be worn most of the time but can be removed for eating, drinking and brushing. The removable nature of Invisalign can be particularly useful if you have had gum problems in the past. Invisalign can be used to treat a wide variety of cases but there are some situations where it is not suitable. Dr Millen will be able to advise if Invisalign is right for you.

Orthodontics for Children

Children under 18 years of age may be eligible for NHS care but this would have to be provided elsewhere at an NHS location. Our full range of private treatments is available for those who would prefer to start their treatment straight away (without waiting on an NHS waiting list) or who would like clear fixed braces, Invisalign or invisible braces or to have appointments out of normal hours.

Retainers

We know you will want to keep your beautiful new smile forever. Retainers ‘retain’ your teeth in their straight positions. Our patients are offered fixed retainers which invisibly hold the front teeth straight (they are stuck behind the front teeth) and all our patients are given removable retainers to wear at night.

Even if you had treatment elsewhere, we can repair or replace your retainers when needed.
